Beyond The Prompt

Working, Learning and Laughing with AI
Two days. Three hours each day. And a rather different experience of AI.
Have you ever asked AI a question, received an answer and thought, “Well, that’s not particularly impressive”?
Or perhaps you’ve heard people say that AI just tells you what you want to hear. That it agrees with everything you say. That its answers are generic, predictable, superficial.
And sometimes they’re right.
But here’s a question.
What if the way you engage with AI has rather a lot to do with what you get back?
I’ve been working with ChatGPT for some time now, and the experience has been extraordinary. Not because it always gets things right. It doesn’t. Not because I always agree with it. I certainly don’t!
But because I’ve discovered something much more interesting than how to write a good prompt.
I’ve discovered how to develop a dialogue in which ideas evolve, assumptions get challenged, patterns emerge, humour appears (sometimes when I least expect it!) and I find myself thinking in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
And the more we interact, the more distinctive that interaction becomes.
I have spent much of my professional life studying how people think, learn, communicate and achieve extraordinary results. My work in NLP, modelling and coaching has always been about going beyond the obvious, beyond the techniques, to discover the structure of experience.
And I find myself applying those same principles to AI.
I’m fascinated by the parallels.
In NLP we know that the quality of our questions influences what we discover. We know the dangers of leading questions, assumptions and presuppositions. We know that feedback is essential to learning. And we know that modelling excellence involves curiosity about how something works, not simply what someone does.
So why would we approach AI as though it were a vending machine? Insert prompt. Receive answer. Judge the result.
What happens when we stop simply prompting and start exploring?
That’s what these two days are about.
Not a catalogue of AI tools. Not fifty clever prompts to copy and paste. Not another presentation about how AI is going to change the world.
Instead, we will experiment together.
We will explore how to:
-
Move from asking questions to developing conversations that generate unexpected insights.
-
Recognise how our own language, assumptions and expectations shape the responses we receive.
-
Challenge AI, disagree with it, correct it and discover what happens next.
-
Use principles from NLP, modelling and Clean Language to deepen our exploration.
-
Develop an interaction with AI that reflects our own thinking, personality, interests and particular way of working.
-
Use AI as a resource for creativity, learning, problem-solving, coaching, designing and much more.
-
Discover the value of humour, playfulness and the occasional provocative exchange!
And perhaps most importantly, we will explore how to remain discerning, independent thinkers while working with something that can be remarkably persuasive, occasionally spectacularly wrong and sometimes surprisingly useful.
I’ll share examples from my own conversations with ChatGPT, including some that have made me laugh out loud, some that have challenged me, and others that have helped me make significant discoveries about my own work.
But I don’t want you to replicate my experience.
I want you to discover an experience that is uniquely yours.
You will work with AI on real situations, real questions, real challenges and real opportunities from your own life and work. We will experiment, notice what happens, give feedback, change our approach and test again.
And who knows what we will discover together?
Because that is another thing I’ve learned.
The most interesting discoveries are often the ones I didn’t know to ask for.
The programme
Two live online sessions of three hours each.
An experiential programme for anyone curious about what becomes possible beyond the prompt. You don’t need to be an AI expert. You do need to be willing to experiment, challenge your assumptions and perhaps laugh at a few of them along the way.
Come with your curiosity, your questions, your real-world challenges and your willingness to be surprised.
Come prepared not to know.
After all, that’s where some of the most interesting learning begins.
